They say that what happens in Vegas, stays in
Vegas. While it's likely that many hope this rings true, considering how many
things happen in the city of Las Vegas, the phrase is almost certainly wishful
thinking. There is something for everybody both on and off The Strip, and
despite its 'Sin City' nickname, not all of it is rated R.
Along the Las Vegas Strip there are plenty of eye-catching
landmarks that will delight visitors of all ages, from the famous dancing
fountains at the Bellagio, to the gondola rides at the Venetian. In fact, most
of the hotels have an attraction or two to lure in the casual passerby’s; the
Mirage has a volcano show, New York, New York has a roller coaster that weaves
its way in and out of the hotel, and Mandalay Bay Resort has a much-loved
aquarium with an imposing shark tank. Dazzling concerts, breathtaking shows,
musicals, magic and the ever-popular Cirque de Soleil performances are among
the many spectacles on rotation along The Strip, offering visitors different
delights depending on the date. The lights and sounds on the street flood the
senses and add to the exuberant atmosphere.
Las Vegas is known to be a paradise for
gamblers, and the excitement in the air in the many casinos can be contagious.
The dining options along The Strip are plentiful and will accommodate every
budget, while drinks flow freely on casino floors. For those looking to dance
the night away, clubs often host internationally famous DJs, although the lines
are usually long so early attendance is advised.
If the Las Vegas Strip feels overwhelming, a day
trip to see the Grand Canyon might be exactly what is needed, while any
visitors with an interest in astronomy might enjoy stargazing in Death Valley
National Park, one of only three International Dark Sky Parks in the US. Closer
to The Strip, Downtown Las Vegas has really come into its own in recent years,
with spaces such as Fremont Entertainment District and the Arts District giving
the previously neglected historic center a renewed sense of character and
purpose.
The truth about Las Vegas is that whether you
arrive seeking non-stop stimulation or much-needed rest and relaxation, your
visit can be tailored to your specifications. It is certainly the perfect
playground for adults, with high levels of energy buoyed by enthusiasm,
opulence and reckless abandon, but it also has a gentler, softer side that
enjoys much of the eye-catching wonder of The Strip without the neon-lit
adrenaline rush. Exploring the wonders around Las Vegas - both natural and
man-made - is an incredible experience. Drew Carey once said, "Everything
and anything you want to do, you can do in Las Vegas" and he wasn't wrong.
So, what would you like to do?
