The Chronicles of Larry & Roger: A Pair of Diabetic Feet

The Newsy Neighbour
January Issue #111
Article provided by:Jenericay Wellness and Footcare

Hello, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Larry here! Roger and I had a FABULOUS holiday season with our human. We hope you did as well. We are so excited about our New Year’s Resolution this year; we plan to just continue with our New Year’s resolution for 2016 – be good diabetics! It has been such an amazing thing for the past year. We are on a roll – let’s not stop a good thing!

It brings to mind that it has been a full year since we started the Chronicles in this amazing magazine, The Newsy Neighbour. It has been a great journey for us. We have taken you on holidays, hikes and through special activities. We have given you some amazing recipes and shared our journey to wellness, including how to do the holidays safely as a diabetic. 2016 have been both good and bad to all of us. Some of us were on healing journeys and some of us could not wait to be done with the year and on to the next. 2017 is here, may it be a great one for all. Roger and I send out healing energy to all and hope this year brings everyone the light and love that they so deserve.

In reflection of the last twelve months and in re-reading our New Year’s Resolution in last January’s edition, these few points stand out for both of us once again:

Your feet are not replaceable; they must last a lifetime.
Foot or leg amputation could happen to you.
Diabetes is the leading cause of non-traumatic lower extremity amputations.
Every 30 seconds, somewhere in the world, a limb is lost as a consequence of diabetes.
Toe and partial foot amputations are common.
Amputation rates are greater with increasing age, in males compared with females, and among African and Hispanic Americans.
More than half of those could have been prevented by good blood sugar control, better preventative foot care and better care of foot ulcers.
