If you are of the opinion that food tastes
better outside and that anything with chocolate is heaven, you are most likely
a fan of s'mores. That sticky stack of graham crackers, marshmallows, and
chocolate has been a favourite of generations of campers. While there is
nothing like a good old classic, consider these ways to take your s'mores game
to the next level.
Candy S'mores
Give the traditional s'more a delicious twist.
Instead of putting a piece of chocolate between the graham crackers, mix it up
with your favourite chocolate candy. Peanut butter cups make a delicious, nutty
treat. Peppermint patties add a refreshing spin on the s'more. Substitute a Kit
Kat for the chocolate to get a crunchy, gooey indulgence.
Orange S'mores
Orange and chocolate flavours complement each
other well, and you can use this to your advantage when turning your s'more
expectations upside down. Cut a fresh orange in half and scoop out the fruit.
Put some chocolate squares in the bottom of the hollow rind and top it with
marshmallows. Crumble graham crackers on top, and put it over your campfire or
in the oven until the marshmallows are as gooey as you like. Grab a spoon and
enjoy your orange infused s'more cup.
S'mores Dip
S'mores aren't exactly a “neat and tidy” food.
By the time you are on your second s'more, you are often sticky all over. You
can get all of the yumminess with less of the mess by making your s'mores
dippable. Simply fill the bottom of an 8-inch pan with chocolate squares, and
layer marshmallows over the top. Bake in the oven until the tops of the
marshmallows are golden brown. Grab a handful of graham crackers and dip in.
Chocolate Chip S'mores
For a truly delicious treat, ditch the graham
crackers, and pull out the big guns. Chocolate chip cookies will take your
s'mores to an entirely different plane of deliciousness. Make the s'mores as
you normally would, except cap the ends with everyone's favourite cookie. It
makes the s'more softer and far more decadent.
Dougnut S'mores
If you want s'mores that push the indulgence
meter to its limits, try using dougnuts as a substitute for the graham
crackers. A pair of glazed donuts stuffed with marshmallows and chocolate is so
good it should be illegal.
Deep Fried S'mores
If you love s'mores but just think they are too
healthy, pull out the deep fryer. A battered and fried s'more is a confection
worthy of any carnival or street fair.
S'more Kabobs
It seems to have become the fashion among
foodies to offer traditional dishes deconstructed. You can get in on this trend
by separating the s'more into its basic elements and putting them on a stick.
Grab a metal skewer and load it up with chocolate, marshmallows, and graham
crackers. You may have to use different types of chocolate and graham crackers
to see what works best on your kabob.
S'more Fondue
Since the fondue craze of the mid-20th century,
chocolate lovers everywhere have been dipping their marshmallows. You can make
your own s'more fondue by melting chocolate on the stove or in the microwave
and dipping a fork-speared marshmallow into the sweet liquid.
Now that you know how to elevate your s'mores to
the next level, wipe the drool off of your mouth, and head to the market to
