Hello Newsy Neighbour readers! I
hope you enjoyed the Stampede, which, in spite of the weather, was great fun.
Fortunately, the big event in Chestermere, the CBRE/Melcor Stampede BBQ, went off with no rain and I had
the opportunity to greet many of you. As I write this, I am gearing up to
volunteer Friday evening at Langdon Days (garbage duty at the beer gardens). The
weather forecast looks great! Langdon Days has been an institution for over 25
years and would not be possible without a small army of volunteers so if you
see one, thank them! If you are one, thank
you! And if you attended, please consider volunteering next year. Volunteers
are the heart of your community. I hope you enjoyed our entry in the parade. This
is our second year participating. The beautiful horses and wagon were supplied
by my friend Verne Kemble and his partner Connie of Little Edgewater Ranch in
Indus. I have known Verne since not long after I moved to Chestermere in 1979.
Verne and Connie’s passion is horses. I am sure many of you have seen them at
Pioneer Acres demonstrating old time farming techniques or enjoyed riding in
one of their beautiful wagons at various events.
We hope you got a chance to speak
to some of our Wildrose team at the parade and at our booth on Saturday and
Sunday. The volunteers in the Chestermere Rocky View Constituency Association
step up to organize our participation in these events and keep our spirits
high. The executive team consists of:
Dave Kersey, President (from
Chestermere)
Gerard Lucyshyn, VP Membership
(Indus)
Alessandra Predolin, Secretary
(Springbank)
Nadine Kersey, Treasurer
(Chestermere)
Brittany Tudor, VP Fundraising
(Strathmore)
Our small but mighty team of
Wildrosers want YOU to come on board and help with growing our party and help
shape its vision of the future of Alberta. We are a member-driven team, so come
out and help us get to government in 2019. You may get in touch by emailing CA.Chestermere.RockyView@Wildrose.ca or phone 403-907-0101 and
someone will get in touch.
The Premier has just announced
members of her NDP government’s Oil Sands Advisory Group. One of the co-chairs
is Tzeporah Berman. Ms. Berman is one of the founding signatories of the NDPs
radical Leap Manifesto. Let’s see… they advocate for an end to resource
extraction, no new pipelines, an end to free trade, and massive tax increases,
among other things. She has called the Oil Sands “Mordor”, “tar sands”, and
“dirty”. Why would the Premier appoint someone to chair this group who is on
record as favouring a shutdown of the industry that is one of the pillars of
our economy? We rely on the production and sale of our resources. Our energy
industry is down 100,000 jobs and faced with an ideologically driven government
that is hurting competitiveness. Where does the Premier think the money for
health care, education, and other services Albertans need comes from? Is the
best person she can find as co-chair of this group someone who wants to see our
resources stay in the ground? What are the people who are proud to work in the
energy sector supposed to think? Are their jobs somehow ‘dirty” and not worth
preserving? Would you put money into an industry when the government’s
appointed advisors want it shut down? These are serious questions and Albertans
deserve an honest answer from the government, not more multi-million (borrowed)
dollar advertising campaigns. Please tell us what you think, we love to hear
from you.
Leela Sharon Aheer, MLA
