May Issue 115
Article Provided By: Kyle W. Penn
It’s been a heck of a winter here in Alberta. With
snow and cold weather hanging around even until the last bitter weeks of April,
I think we’re all about ready for some warmth, sunshine, and spring weather to
roll through the Prairies. In addition to this being the month when spring will
officially hit our community, May also marks The Newsy Neighbour’s 115th
issue. This means that in just a few more issues, we’ll be coming up on our
ten-year anniversary! With such an enormous milestone on the horizon like that,
we’ve been preparing a few surprises to mark the occasion. While we might be a
few months ahead of schedule, we decided that spring – that season best known
for growth, renewal, and new beginnings – would be the perfect opportunity to
roll out some of these exciting changes.
So, the first big announcement: we’ve hired new team
members! We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Kyle Penn to the Newsy Neighbour roster. While he has been helping out with the
magazine in a limited capacity for the last several months, we’ve decided to
make it official and bring him on in a bigger, more permanent capacity.
Kyle is a longstanding members of the Langdon, Strathmore, and
Chestermere communities, and is passionate about helping The Newsy Neighbour
continue to grow, while also supporting the efforts and ambitions of the
businesses and individuals who call southern Alberta home.
With the addition of this stellar individual to
our team, we’ll be primed and ready to offer you more brilliant
community-minded content and goings-on than ever before. Having the extra hands
on deck will mean more great feature articles, bigger and better community
events, and an overall increase to the quality of everything we do here at The
Newsy Neighbour. We’re a small team, so bringing on an extra two staff members
is a huge step, and one that we’re incredibly eager to be taking!
Which brings us to our second big announcement for
this month. We opened this article talking about spring, and the renewal and
fresh changes that it brings with it each year. Similarly, you might notice
some differences between this issue of The Newsy Neighbour and the next one to
hit the newsstands. We’ll still be bringing you all the same great content,
news, and information, but starting in June, The Newsy Neighbour will come to
you with a brand new, updated look! This is a change we’ve been kicking around
for months now, and the figurative eve of our ten-year anniversary seemed like
a great opportunity to embrace a bit of change and roll out an exciting new
face for the magazine. Along with a completely re-branded logo, you can expect our
next issue to feel renewed, modern, and reinvigorated. Spring is a time for new
beginnings, so we thought we’d embrace some change of our own by slapping a
fresh coat of paint onto the magazine design that we’ve stuck for 115 fantastic
issues. Change can sometimes be a bit scary – and we’re certainly more than a
little nervous about leaving behind the familiar format that’s carried us so
faithfully for so long – but we can hardly wait to show you the exciting
changes that we’ve been working on behind the scenes.
On that note, while we know that it’s still a few
months out before we hit our tenth anniversary, we still wanted to end this
article off by thanking everyone in the community for the constant show of
support they consistently demonstrate for us, and for the magazine. We’ve had a
blast doing what we’ve done for the past nine and a half years, and wouldn’t
have been able to make any of it happen without being part of such an
outstanding community. Thanks for everything, and we’ll see you next month from
the pages of the brand new, redesigned Newsy Neighbour!
