“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” -Rumi

Every one of us has been there. We said to ourselves “This is it. The time is now.” This is the time to make a change. Whether it is finally giving up a job to follow a better path, or getting the courage to ask out your secret crush, or taking on an aspect of our character we wish to improve and finally making some lasting changes.

The only constant in life is change. Without change, there can be no growth. There can be no shift into something better.

Yet how many times have we stayed, in a place of agony or apathy, wishing for the bravery/tools/timing to manifest something in our life? Are we waiting for the change to happen for us? Do we truly believe in our own ability to shape our own lives?

As a student of the Self, I ask “What is it that makes the difference in making transformative changes in our lives?” What is it that my personal journey is teaching me? There are some practical steps to help along the way, and some that are more esoteric in nature – my experience is teaching me that both aspects are necessary for making changes for the better. I hope what I can share can help you in any way!

10 Ways to Manifest Positive Change in Life:

  1. Do the things that help you settle into your body and create a relationship with your breath. Through the breath, we gain access to greater understanding of oneself as a whole being. By establishing this relationship, we can better choose our paths in life.
  2. Learn to hear the voice of the Ego. Just knowing it is often enough to lessen its power over the way we move through our life.
  3. Learn what it is that you want for your life (less the voice of the Ego, to help you get closer to what will make you truly happy), and then be sure to write it down. Keep it where you can see it, and keep it dynamic – think about it, keep the vision clear in your heart, but allow it to grow as you do.
  4. Know your support group and reach out to them when you need it. Be it your friends and family, business consultants or personal counsellor, seek the support we ALL need in times of growth and change.
  5. Make a plan. Map the actions you need to take and the help you will need along the way. Put deadlines on things. Be willing to put the effort in.
  6. Ride out the “feelings”. There will be days when giving up or giving in will feel compelling, and there will be days that you will second guess your plan. Don't give up. Trust your passions, your plan and your intuition as a guiding force in your life, not emotion.
  7. Keep the vision clear but the way that you get there to be fluid. Sometimes we have no idea the blessings that come out of unexpected events. If we give up when things don’t go as planned we wont get far.
  8. We all have karma. Lessons we need to learn in our life. Whatever it is that causes us pain – there is the opportunity to improve. The only way to be freed from karma is to do the work it takes to heal our hurts. It may take effort, and we may need to ask for help. Be brave. We got this.
  9. Understand your worthiness. Even in times when you don’t believe it to be true, hold fast in the faith of your innate worth. This is worth that transcends any output or results you generate for your life. Don’t believe me? Go explore with an open mind any of the ways to tune into your spirituality and listen to what your soul has to say.
  10. Treat your life like a grand adventure, because it is! And you are the hero. Every adventure has ups and downs, so try not to get down for long and don’t mourn when the ups level back out. Celebrate the successes and cherish the mundane, and be curious about it all.
