As you can probably tell, we at the Newsy Neighbour are extremely passionate about supporting local business. This is one of 3 shopping challenges we are organizing in the wonderful communities we serve. If you didn’t read the other articles, you may be wondering... what is a shopping challenge?
Well, several studies have shown that when you buy from an independent, locally owned business, rather than a nationally owned businesses, significantly more of your money is used to make purchases from other local businesses, service providers and farms – continuing to strengthen the economic base of the community. So with that being said, we REALLY want to encourage you to shop locally and we are prepared to reward you for doing it! You just need to spend $10 at 8 of the 17 stores on the shopping challenge form and you are entered to win one of several AMAZING prizes worth thousands!

Where to start? Well... everyone needs groceries, so start by making sure to buy your groceries at Buy-Low Foods. The only thing you have to do differently than every other time you go there, is get the cashier to initial your shopping challenge form. Are you thinking about selling your home? Guy Cooley from Re/Max or Gail Schmidt from CIR Realty can do a CMA on your home for you and that qualifies you for a signature. Have you been thinking lately that you deserve a YOU day? Why not start by visiting Never EndingStories to browse the thousands of gently used books? Find the next romance, mystery or even self-help book to indulge yourself in. Next, you should take yourself to J&K Nails for a much needed manicure to touch up those gardening hands. Invite your mom to go with you, she can get a pedicure or some waxing done – and her own shopping challenge signature! On your way to SandstonePharmacy to do some shopping (because you can find so many incredible things at Sandstone!), make sure to treat yourself to an AMAZING cupcake or some frozen yogurt at My Bakery Shop. That is 4 signatures in just a couple hours.

There is still time to get into that bikini-ready shape for summer; you just need to call Corrie at D.O.C Personal Training and he will let you know exactly what you have to do. To celebrate your new body, you can swing by Kimmer Country Market to get some fireworks. Did you know that even buying GAS will qualify you for a signature? You can get gas at Kimmer and at WenstromEquipment (where you can also get an RZT Razor to help you mow your huge Langdon backyard!). Are you tired of always having to fill up your propane tank when you want to have a BBQ? Call Cesare’s Plumbing; he can get you a gas line directly to your BBQ. Since you are adding a gas line to your house, why not take a look at upgrading your windows or finally replacing that broken window with Langdon Glass? And since we are still talking about your house, when was the last time you had your shingles inspected? Call Ian at Langdon Roofing; he will inspect them for you!

Are you finally ready to get that fantastic business going that you have been dreaming about? Just do it! Terri at Indus Graphics can do your business cards, brochures and vehicle decals, and Serge at Eastside Accounting Services can make sure all your books and finances are in order. I recently had a crown put in at Langdon Dental; it was the coolest thing ever, and here is why... Dr. Jess has a 3D printer right in the office that cut my crown out of a block of porcelain right in front of me. It really was a whole new dental experience, AND I got my shopping challenge form signed!
Stay, shop, save local.
