Backpack Program

Summer Greetings,

The summer is flying by and the store shelves are starting to fill up with school supplies.  It is said that “It is the most wonderful time of the year”.  For some it may be; for others, the thought of sending children back to school causes tremendous stress and anxiety.  Preparing a child to return to school in September is a costly endeavor!  The seemingly endless list of supplies, backpack, new shoes and maybe a new outfit or two.

In response to this need, Community Services is once again offering the Backpack program to families who need a helping hand.  This year however, instead of providing school supplies, we will be giving each child a gift card in which they can go shopping for their own supplies.  Shopping is half of the fun in returning to school and a parent being able to do so is very empowering.

People can donate to the program in a few ways: cash donations, cheque, visa or debit are accepted at the Town of Chestermere Municipal Building or a gift card can be purchased and donated.  Gift cards will be purchased with cash donations and families will receive equal amounts for each child in the program.

If you have a family living in Chestermere or South East Rocky View that is in need of support, please refer them directly to me.

Please share this email with your contacts that would be intersted in becoming involved.  Thank-you for your ongoing support.
